Really? Shooting Indoors With Flash At f1.8?

18 02 2013

This video shows a quite stunning demonstration of available light vs. soft flash. In this demonstration, I set the lens to f1.8. By shooting with an aperture wide open like this, I’m able to achieve a look that is identical to shooting in low lighting with the lens wide open.

Not a lot of people venture this wide open in flash photography, and that’s a huge missed opportunity for creativity. Watch this video, and you’ll see a comparison between available light and a very soft flash puff.

One thing great about using flash for your indoor images is that the main color temperature never changes. this dramatically increases your workflow in post.

How To Shoot Wireless On Manual Mode

27 01 2013

In this video, I show you how to use one of them Yungnuo super inexpensive flash triggers to shoot on Manual mode for lots of creativity. And I also explain why it’s maybe not a good approach!

Super Inexpensive Wireless Flash Setup

25 01 2013

For those of you looking to get into wireless, off-camera solutions right away, one of the options is to purchase a very inexpensive flash trigger. This solution has a lot of limitations, such as the inability to enjoy TTL metering, or high speed sync. (In other words, it’s better to use the camera’s built-in wireless flash function than to use a non-TTL slave trigger.) This video explains why.

Step by Step Guide for Lightsphere Collapsible

23 01 2013

this video was shot today. My most important function as a person who designs flash accessories is to teach people how to use my inventions the way they were designed.

The big question is, what is the best lighting for flash? After you see this video, I hope you learn something really powerful and motivating!

How To Do Ratio Lighting Made Simple!

17 01 2013

Here is a really really detailed yet simple video on how to setup a flash system with ratios. This is one of the most powerful photography techniques for creativity, but most people think it’s really hard and complicated.

I don’t! watch the video!

Sony Wireless Step-By-Step Guide

9 01 2013

Taking the flash off-camera for great ratio lighting is simple, once you’ve done it a few times. The thing about off-camera flash is that they are quite complicated if you stick to the manufacturer’s system. Sony is no exception. This is why so many professional photographers I know spend the money to buy a wireless radio system. All you do is connect the units, and the flash units are talking.

But if you don’t have the bucks to buy a radio, and you want to take your flash off-camera, here’s a button-by-button guide on how to do it with your Sony Alpha System.

Radio Popper vs Pocket Wizard vs Phottix vs IR

8 01 2013

There are many ways of taking the flash off of your camera. In the beginning, it’s easiest to use the wireless function that is built into your camera and flash. Once you use that for a while, you’ll realize that the distance is limited, and it’s very hard to use outdoors in daylight, and most of all, you can’t put the slave behind a wall or anywhere that isn’t line of sight.

Off-camera flash is terribly fun. But the chief reason that more people don’t enjoy it is simply because it takes experimentation and training. In my YouTube videos, I share my experiences from my own experimentation and training. I want you to go straight to fun, without having to scratch your head figuring stuff out.

I own all of the radio slave triggers. I will show you the differences between the three, and why one is the nicest of the three :)

Quick, Easy and Cheap Off-Camera Flash Setup

28 12 2012

I just had a person write me and ask – what do I do to set up my flash off-camera?  Specifically what do I buy?  What hardware do I get?  Well it’s always my pleasure to help.  So here you go!
